Here’s another book by Amy-Jill Levine, one of my favorite authors and presenters. Levine amazes me with her compelling insights on Jesus and his message for us today, all told from the unique perspective of an accomplished University professor and practicing Jew. To me, she is a true rabbi for Christians.
In this study, Levine digs into Jesus’ longest monologue in the Gospels, stretching a full three chapters of Matthew. I remember hitting this passage in my youth, and being struck by all the red letters!
I’ve broken this into seven lessons. There are actually six chapters in the book, but our class took a full session with the Introduction, so I separated it as its own lesson. I strongly urge you to get the book’s corresponding DVD, or otherwise find Levine’s videos for this book online, as she brings new observations (and passion!) to each segment.
If you choose to use this study, please let me know how it goes in the comments below.
