I wanted to make my first series a good one, and you don’t get much better than Adam Hamilton. His Making Sense of the Bible: Rediscovering the Power of Scripture Today does a great job of presenting scripture in a modern and still sacred context. You’ll want to allocate a fair amount of time for this one. It took our class eighteen sessions, but they were good ones!
I recommend you getting the accompanying DVD and optionally the Leader Guide. However, these resources are organized to cover the entire book in six sessions. I found there was so much to cover in each chapter of the book, it was better to take our time and cover a chapter or two each session. That meant only playing a video from the DVD every few lessons, but that’s all outlined in my lesson plans.
Let me know how it works for you!
