Inspired – Rachel Held Evans

Rachel Held Evans is a popular Christian author from the last decade whose life was tragically cut short in May of 2019. That year, our class decided to study one of her books – Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again. It’s a unique take on how the Bible remains relevant to us today.

Evans precedes each chapter on a Biblical theme with a story, sometimes retelling Biblical tales in her own words and sometimes spinning yarns that highlight a message in the subsequent chapter. I hadn’t encountered this literary device before, but it works!

We covered Inspired in seven sessions, with the initial session focused solely on the Introduction. I found a variety of YouTube videos that seemed to work with most chapters, and I’ve included associated links in each lesson plan.

Coincidentally, our class is currently studying another Evans book entitled Searching for Sunday: Loving, Leaving, and Finding the Church. I’ll put that one up in a future blog post.

As always, let me know in the Comments below if you used this or any of the lesson plans, and how things went.

Thanks!
