Our class has been studying this book over the last several months, taking a hiatus to discuss the Psalms during Lent. Gaines-Cirelli is a prominent figure in the United Methodist Church and serves as lead pastor at Foundry UMC in Washington, D.C. Sacred Resistance summarizes the observations and techniques driving Foundry’s resistance efforts to injustice in our society.
Included in the lesson plans here, you’ll find a link to a separate discussion guide authored by Gaines-Cirelli herself. Between the two, you should have ample fodder for rich discussions on this topic.
There are seven chapters in total, and we covered one per week. I never end up asking all the questions I prepare, but rather pick and choose in the moment based on the flow of conversation. I encourage you to do the same. Otherwise, you’re likely to spend several hours on each chapter!
If you like this or any of my lesson plans, share them to your social media accounts using the links on the right, and let me know how things went in the comments below.
